Make a memorable first impression!

August 8, 2021

First impressions can last a lifetime. And it only takes a quick glance - a few seconds - for someone to evaluate you when you meet for the first time. In this short time, the other person forms an opinion about you based on your appearance, your body language, your mannerisms, and how you are dressed. Good or bad experience on a person's first visit to a building can be the difference between a successful story or a lost opportunity, and the scent that greets the nostrils of a person will go a long way to deciding whether this person's opinion is positive or negative.

First date? New job interview? A business meeting? You only have a short few seconds to make a good first impression, according to some researchers. They say that based on the results conducted in a study, key contributors to a positive first impression are smiling, being polite, being a good listener, making eye contact and smelling nice

But which scents to choose to really make a positive and lasting impression?

In our opinion there aren't  notes to avoid, as scent is a highly subjective matter. However, below we offer a few tips on how to wear specific notes to make sure people will remember you in a positive way.

Woodsy, spicy and Oriental base notes are often used in perfumes that are considered heavier and more proper to wear at night, when going out or when you are trying to seduce and attract somebody's attention.

Light floral and citrus base notes are often used in perfumes that are softer and better to wear during the day, to work and to a job interview.

If you are unsure about the note of your perfume, try to picture what the scent reminds you of after it has been absorbed in your skin for a while, or check out our 101 guide to identyfing fragrances blog.

The most important thing about wearing perfume, however, is how you wear it. Many people tend to bath themselves in perfume prior to going on a date or meeting someone for the first time. Even if the scent is pleasing, it may leave the wrong impression on the person next to you.

The most important thing about wearing perfume, is how you wear it.

What you want to achieve when making an impression with perfume, is that your light scent lingers for just a bit after you have left the room, giving the person a chance to reflect a little about you and remember everything you've said.

To test if you’re wearing too much perfume, hold out your arm after you’ve spritzed the perfume on your wrist. If you can smell your perfume beyond the length of your arm you are wearing too much.

Remember: Some things can’t be put into words... they have to be shown and experienced. And perfume is one such thing. It tells a lot, without the need for us to open our mouth. That's why our only job is to make sure we wear it properly.
