SEASONALITY: A FRAGRANCE FOR EACH SEASON?

July 6, 2021

Whether the sunlight warms your skin or the rain makes you soaked, one thing is certain: you never go out without wearing a perfume. This daily ritual persists over the seasons and years, but seasons change, should you perfume change too?

“Just like you won’t look your best if you wear your summer clothes in winter, for example, wearing a perfume that’s more appropriate for a hot summer’s day on Christmas might be considered bad taste for those around you.”

The concept of season is tightly interlaced with that of perfume and so it is inevitable that perfume has its own seasonality. This is due to the fact that, in the past, perfumes were made with raw materials deriving from nature. The evolution of the techniques of perfume making, however, managed to present us with these fragrances all year round, by replicating them exactly.

But if you want to truly impress people around you, you should carefully choose your scents according to the season you are wearing them in. Just like you won’t look your best if you wear your summer clothes in winter, for example, wearing a perfume that’s more appropriate for a hot summer’s day on Christmas might be considered bad taste for those around you.

So, here are our tips and suggestions for what kind of perfumes to wear in the different seasons:

SPRING: the florals

“We suggest bouquets of white flowers, lily, orange blossom or jasmine.”

Spring is all about romance, innocence, happiness, and blooms. It is a time when temperatures rise a bit and your good mood rises with them. Enhance this feeling with the right fragrance! The perfume notes that go best with spring are sophisticated, light, and fresh – like bouquets of white flowers, lily, orange blossom or jasmine.

SUMMER: citrus

“Try something light and fresh like lemon, bergamot, orange, grapefruit or mandarin.”

Summer is the season of hot weather, exotic fruits, vacations, and having the time of your life! It is a time we all think about the sea and the long hot summer nights out. For summer you should choose fresher and cooler fragrances to get the best contrast with the hot weather. Go for notes that make you feel light and uplifted while also bringing that holiday feeling. If you aren’t sure where to start, look for fresh and exotic scents that originate from the tropics – like lemon, bergamot, orange, grapefruit and mandarin.

AUTUMN: woddy

“Reach for warm and musky scents like patchouli, sandalwood, amber, oakmoss and similar.”

With fall come the cooler temperatures, the day is getting shorter and our mood changes. Autumn brings tranquility we need to prepare for the colder weather and all the interesting holidays that are ahead of us. That is why wood notes make the best fragrance companion both for men and for women in this season. The notes that go best with our fall mood are warm and musky, like patchouli, sandalwood, amber, oakmoss, etc.

WINTER: the orientals

“You can go with heavier sweeter notes of vanilla, cinnamon or tonka bean and other oriental family fragrances.”

Love it or hate it? No matter which one are you, winter is perfumes’ favorite season. Lower temperatures during the winter days cause fragrances to fade slowlier than usually. It is the ideal time for heavy formulations of perfumes, which are more concentrated. The sweetness brought by notes of vanilla, cinnamon or tonka bean will warm your neck and make you feel all cosy and magical. The sweet, powdery, dark and warm base note of oriental family fragrances will bring you a magical winter you’ll love.
